Cell Phone Policy

1. Cell phones will be out of sight (either in backpack or in pocket) during class. The only exceptions are when cell phones are being used for class work or on the extremely rare occasions that the teacher allows their use at the end of class.

2. If the teacher sees a student texting or talking on the phone during class, the student will be asked once to put the phone away.

3. If the teacher sees the phone a second time, at any point after that, the phone will be taken until the end of class. At that point, it will be returned to the student as promised by the teacher. The teacher will call home to discuss the matter with the student's parents.

4. If the teacher sees the phone a third time, at any point after that, the phone will be taken until the halfway point of the school day (lunch or equivalent of half of a day - four periods). At that point, it will be returned to the student as promised by the teacher. The teacher will call home to discuss the matter with the student's parents.

5. If the teacher sees the phone a fourth time, at any point after that, the phone will be taken for the remainder of the school day. At that point, it will be returned to the student as promised by the teacher. The teacher will call home to discuss the matter with the student's parents.

6. For all incidents thereafter, students will have the consequence of #5 plus receive an after school detention.

7. If the student continues to not follow the cell phone policy, the teacher reserves the right to write an office referral and suggest in-school suspensions as consequences.
